The April/May issue of The Green Parent magazine includes the latest in my series of interviews with parenting experts.
I spoke to Lenore Skenazy, author of Free-Range Kids: How to Raise Safe, Self-Reliant Children (Without Going Nuts with Worry), about why it’s important to let our children have the same freedom we had.
“If you are old enough to be a parent, it’s likely that you were a “free-range kid”. We walked to school, we played outside, we rode our bikes. It’s just how we all were. I love safety – I’m not Evel Knievel. Being free-range is not about risk-taking or exaggerated activities like rock climbing. It’s no more dangerous than real life.” Lenore Skenazy
I really enjoyed speaking to Lenore and have found myself incorporating many of her ideas into my daily life with my three-year-old. I recommend her book to anyone who’d like to reminded of the things we all got up to – and lived to tell the tale.
