Hello, I’m Hannah

I'm a freelance journalist, writer and PR / communications professional based in Newcastle-under-Lyme (the ‘proper Newcastle’, the one in Staffordshire), with a strong interest in heritage, regeneration, arts and culture.

Previously I was a senior journalist at The Sentinel/ Stoke-on-Trent Live and the Birmingham Mail, and I've also worked in communications for Keele University and Ceramics UK.

I’m a trustee for a local charity called Pro Level Vision, which aims to make academy standard football coaching available to vulnerable or disadvantaged young people. I’m also a member of the Supporter Advisory Board at Port Vale FC, where I’m a season ticket holder.

On this website, you'll find a mix of my journalism, client press releases, and hopefully - when time and energy allows - more personal reflections.

If you’d like to work with me, get in touch at hannah.hiles@gmail.com

You can subscribe to this website to get full access to all my news and thoughts, as well as the archives.

Please note that I’ve created a section called Client News which readers can opt out of if they prefer. Currently my PR clients tend to be cultural or heritage organisations in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, and while they are doing some great things, I realise this niche won’t be relevant to all my readers.

If you prefer to opt out of these updates, you can adjust your subscription settings by going to your account settings (click on your profile picture, then choose ‘manage subscription’ from the menu) and toggle Client News off. Any problems, let me know - I’m still figuring it all out!
